Pochettino stresses importance of Rochdale FA Cup match

Pochettino stresses importance of Rochdale FA Cup match

"The performance deserved at least the opportunity to go to Wembley in a replay", Hill added.

But Pochettino insisted for all Spurs' recent wins over Manchester United and Arsenal, as well as their hugely creditable draw in Turin, there was no question of them taking Rochdale lightly.

While Spurs curse having to play another game, their manager Mauricio Pochettino accepted it was the "magic" of the Cup and Kane was generous in his praise of Rochdale where he began his league career while on loan at Leyton Orient seven years ago.

Dale have never reached the quarter-finals, and Dunphy said: "In my memory it's the biggest game we've ever played".

It seemed Spurs' recovery was complete when Rochdale defender Harrison McGahey brought down Dele Alli and Kane beat Lillis, who dived the right way, with a well-struck penalty.

This will be the second time Spurs have faced a replay against lower league opposition, after League Two Newport County forced the North Londoners into a second tie in the previous round: "That is football".

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino had no complaints and stressed they could have no excuse with the newly-laid surface.

"I was not surprised", he said. This competition is completely differently. "Newport gave us a fantastic game and they lost their next game in the league 5-0".

"We have all the squad fit and it's good to provide all the players with the possibility to play". Heads could have gone down at 2-1 but they didn't.

"It could have been football suicide but for us to score the goal and go in 1-0 at half-time was tremendous, a marvellous feeling for those players".

"This type of game is so hard and we have to be careful how we assess the performance".

No player has scored more than Henderson's six FA Cup goals this season and the former Norwich striker thought the third-tier side were well worth their famous result.

Should Pep Guardiola's men avoid a repeat of the Latics' shock 2013 FA Cup final victory, City will be at home to Southampton in the quarter-finals.
