Google Pay gives Android Pay a new wallet

Google Pay gives Android Pay a new wallet

"The [Google Pay] app, which begins rolling out today, is just one part of everything we've got planned", Gerardo Capiel and Varouj Chitilian, executives at Google's Consumer Payments division, wrote in a blog post. Those of you who look to use Google Pay online will notice new branding there as well with the icon being changed to a "Buy with G Pay" button. The company launched Google Wallet several years ago before folding it and launching Android Pay. The app can also be used to pay for transit in select cities, such as Kiev, Portland, and London, with more cities to be supported soon. But, for now, the new feature will be limited to Google apps which include Feed and Search. Recognising this differentiation was unnecessary, Google's now replacing the apps with the single "Google Pay" brand. So rather than thinking about "Android Pay" for in-store purchases, PayPal for one-tap shopping online, and Venmo for P2P payments, the idea behind this amalgamation is to position Google Pay as a one-stop-shop for all your transactions.

"We're now working on bringing Google Pay to all Google products, so whether you're shopping on Chrome or with your [voice] Assistant, you'll have a consistent checkout experience using the cards saved to your Google Account", Google added in its statement. Now, Google is coming out with its own take.

Google Pay app is divided in two halves.

Nowhere near as prominent among the world's digital wallet platforms as Apple Pay, despite working with any Android device running 4.4 KitKat and up, Android Pay is being reborn and rebranded as Google Pay. It's called Google Pay Send and has been created to rival Apple Pay Cash, PayPal and Venmo, letting customers send and request money in a slew of different currencies.

Customers in the U.S. and the United Kingdom will be the first to get the ability to send and request money with Google Pay.
