Nuance has sunsetted its Swype keyboard app for Android and iOS

However, now, Nuance Communications has announced the end of support for its Swype keyboard app on Android and iOS devices.

For ardent fans of Swype Keyboard, here comes some bad news as a Redditor has confirmed the developers have made a decision to discontinue rolling out any new updates to the software. Nuance, the company that bought Swype in 2011 for $100M, told a redditor today that they are no longer developing for the Swype keyboard and that they have chose to exit the "direct-to-consumer keyboard business". We're sorry to leave the direct-to-consumer keyboard business, but this change is necessary to allow us to concentrate on developing our AI solutions for sale directly to businesses. I've personally been using Gboard for well over a year as my keyboard of choice, and while it can take some time to understand all of its different features, it really does offer one of the best typing experiences on Android. It's still on the Play Store, so if you want a dead keyboard app for some reason, grab it while you can. Google is continuously adding more features on its keyboard which is ultimately making Swype redundant for users. One such keyboard app is Swype that featured some pretty neat features back in the days when it had hit the market.

The lack of updates for Swype may create issues in the future because it's not just a keyboard but the app that you use but also where you type all your passwords as well as confidential information including e-mail. Now the company behind the popular keyboard, Nuance...

Shortly after this, XDA Developers received a statement from Swype's PR department confirming what the Reddit user was told. The public beta of the app, which went live in June, 2010, was either pre-loaded on most Samsung and Motorola phones or was available for download from the company website.
