Jackson, Ohio Middle School Student Shoots Himself

Mom said she immediately called the police and found out that the lockdown at the school was very real.

No other students were hurt in the shooting at Jackson Middle School, near Massillon. It is unclear if the shooting was intentional.

The boy was rushed to a local hospital with a wound to his temple, but information on his condition is not yet available.

The Jackson Local School District also closed its four elementary schools and cancleed extra-curricular activities, according to post on the district's Facebook page. Authorities have not said whether the school will reopen Wednesday.

Students are being dismissed from class today. "Students who rode the bus can be picked up at the high school by their parents".

The incident happened around 7:51 a.m. on the school grounds at 7355 Mudbrook St. NW. Many nervous parents waking to see their kids.

Jackson Police Chief Mark Brink said in a press conference Tuesday afternoon that the boy had been armed with "distraction devices" but did not have any explosives.

Cars are wrapped around residential areas surrounding Jackson Memorial Middle School.

"He said come get me in like an hour", according to mom. "I thought it would never happen here but obviously, that is not the case", said Larkins, who was emotional at the thought of what could've happened.
