Microsoft to stop push notifications for Windows Phone 7.5 and 8.0

Microsoft to stop push notifications for Windows Phone 7.5 and 8.0

Effective today, Microsoft is discontinuing support for push notification services on all Windows Phone 7.5 and 8.0 devices.

"Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8.0 have reached their end of support dates and thus services for these versions of Windows will be discontinued over time", the company wrote in a blog late Monday. Devices on Windows Phone 7.5 and 8.0 will no longer receive notifications. While Microsoft phones with Windows OS were nearly out of the markets due to low engagement ratio, the news of Andromeda has warmed up Microsoft's mobile tech launch pad again.

Microsoft will end push notification services to Windows Phone 7.5 and 8.0 on Tuesday, another sign that the firm's smartphone business is winding down. Find us on Facebook too!

Microsoft a year ago had announced that it will no longer provide any support for the existing Windows Phones in terms of software updates that contain any new features.

According to the announcement, the company has spared the device running Windows 8.1 and 10 mobile. However, for users of smartphones running legacy Windows Phone operating systems, Microsoft is making it harder to remain stuck in the past. Although bug fixes related to security would still be offered for some more time. Instead of Windows Phone, Microsoft will now focus on Android and iOS apps. Just like ending support for versions of their PC operating systems (ie, Windows XP, Vista, etc), everything eventually reaches a point where it is pointless to support it any further.
