Russia Admits to 'Dozens' of Casualties in Syria Clashes

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned the USA not to meddle in the Syrian conflict, accusing the Trump administration of trying to undermine the Arab Republic's territorial integrity and of supporting the autonomy-seeking Kurds in order to further its own interests.

The Russian foreign ministry, which previously said that five Russian citizens were likely killed, today released a statement that "there are also several dozen of injured" in the attack.

Russia's Foreign Ministry has admitted that "several dozens" of its nationals were injured in recent clashes with USA -led forces in Syria, days after acknowledging five deaths in the battle.

It denied that the incident involved any Russian military.

"But they took directions from someone". Was it local direction? "We'll work with obviously anyone who can answer that question". "Don't ask me. I don't know". "But I doubt that 250 to 300 people, all just excited on their individual self, suddenly crossed the river in enemy territory, started shelling a location and maneuvering tanks against it", he added.

Russian Federation has acknowledged that five of its citizens were killed in the US-led coalition bombing after they were part of a group of pro-regime combatants which led an attack on positions held by the SDF.

It said "there are Russian citizens in Syria who went there with various goals" and "it is not up to the foreign ministry to evaluate the legality of their decisions".

The ministry said none of those hurt were members of the Russian armed forces and that the injured were being treated at hospitals in Russia.

Russian officials refuse to admit Russian mercenaries are in Syria despite mounting reported evidence that they are active fighting in the interests of the Syrian government.

The mercenaries were apparently working for a private Russia-based military company called the Wagner Group.
