Trump tweets admit Russian interference

Trump tweets admit Russian interference

In the wake of the indictment, President Trump has sent roughly a dozen tweets about the Russian Federation investigation, claiming his campaign did not collude with Russian Federation and blaming the Obama administration for not doing more.

Russian Federation has denied meddling in the USA election and Trump has denied any collusion.

The tweets follow the announcement on Friday (Feb 16) that special counsel Robert Mueller had charged 13 Russians and three Russian companies with a conspiracy to tamper in the 2016 U.S. election.

The indictment describes repeated efforts to foment distrust of Democrat Hillary Clinton's candidacy, evidence of an effort to "encourage US minority groups not to vote in the 2016 USA presidential election or to vote for a third-party US presidential candidate". Mueller has interviewed dozens of Trump's aides and allies, including Hope Hicks, Reince Priebus, Steve Bannon, and others with direct knowledge of the campaign, and is believed to be particularly interested in a 2016 meeting at Trump Tower between the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., and a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer peddling damaging information about Clinton. While all of that is undoubtedly true, it must be recognized that the defendants had to have known that their efforts described in the indictment would not have any material effect on the election results.

Facebook did not say how the new postcard method of verification would prevent foreign agents from setting up local mailing addresses and hiring people in the USA to check them. "This is not acceptable", Trump wrote.

Trump, in the tweets, continued to seek out credit for his upset victory in November 2016. "Russian Federation has tried to subvert the fundamentals of our democracy", Gowdy said.

But the former intelligence chief, who served under former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, predicted that Mueller's team had yet to fully reveal their findings.

'I never said Russian Federation did not meddle in the election, I said, "it may be Russian Federation, or China or another country or group, or it may be a 400 pound genius sitting in bed playing with his computer,"' Trump said, repeating a claim he first made during a presidential debate against Hillary Clinton in September 2016. President Trump tweeted that his campaign, quote, did nothing wrong, no collusion.

Trump's 14 Twitter messages about the Russia investigation within 24 hours focused on defending the validity of his victory and insisting neither he nor his campaign colluded with the Russian misinformation effort.

The clash came a day after the Department of Justice charged 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities as part of Mueller's investigation into whether Russian meddling affected the outcome of the 2016 presidential race.

Trump also took a swipe at his own national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, who said Saturday that the indictment proved that Russian meddling was beyond dispute. "We've got to bring Democrats and Republicans together to fight the president to go forward to protect the integrity of American democracy". However, Trump, who is very fond of nicknames, saved his most savage barb for Adam Schiff.

"There was no collusion, cooperation, coordination with the Russians".

The court document said those accused "had a strategic goal to sow discord in the US political system, including the 2016 USA presidential election".

Last year, Mueller charged Trump's former campaign manager and his deputy with money-laundering and other crimes, and accepted guilty pleas from two former foreign policy aides for lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
