Wendy Williams Announces She Has Graves Disease

Wendy Williams has announced that her television show will be on hiatus for a few weeks as she battles Graves' disease, an immune system disorder that affects the thyroid.

Wednesday morning, Wendy Williams revealed she will be taking three weeks away from her show while she deals with medical issues connected to Graves' Disease, according to TMZ.

Graves' Disease, according to the American Thyroid Association (ATA), is "an autoimmune disease that leads to a generalized overactivity of the entire thyroid gland", named after Irish physician Robert Graves. "Three weeks of vacation", she told her audience.

She then started cleaning her ears with a cotton swab, explaining her ears are "leaking" because of an old medication that needs to wear off before she can start a new medication, which is why she needs to take three weeks off. "I'm a champ and I'm back!" "I'm not an heiress". "This doesn't happen to everybody but I happen to have Graves' disease".

In another post, Wendy wrote, 'I guess when you don't take a sick day EVER in over 25 years the ground is supposed to shake!

Williams, who had to cancel a few shows last week, had initially attributed her recent health issues with age, her work schedule and raising her son.

In her own style, Williams announced the hiatus to her audience. "What I want to say to women more than men is stop putting everyone first", she said.

In an exclusive statement given to People, Wendy's reps confirm that the polarizing TV personality will be taking a break in order to give her body some much needed rest and recuperation. Who's gonna pay my bills? Are you serious? I'm just saying. "You caught it before I did", she said, explaining how her newly diagnosed condition caused her eyes to bug out slightly. She posted the announcement on Twitter and urged women to consistently check on their health. "I'm a thoroughbred. I have not taken off since we started the show". Just a year ago Williams collapsed while taping a live Halloween segment and attributed it to overheating in her costume.
