Files Go adds quicker way of backing up files to Google Drive

Files Go adds quicker way of backing up files to Google Drive

It'll be an interesting move by Reliance Jio because it can still bring over most of its KaiOS-based apps to Android Go devices.

Mobile World Congress kicks off this weekend, and to celebrate Google is launching version 1.0 of its "ARCore" Augmented Reality framework. That will likely change at MWC 2018, according to a recent blog post by Google's Hiroshi Lockheimer. Releasing ARCore out of preview means developers can publish apps that can understand your environment, and place objects in it, on the Google Play store.

Currently, there's no phone running Android Oreo Go edition, but there are plans to release a handful in the near future.

The first Android Go phones will be unveiled at MWC next week and will go on sale shortly thereafter. It was the company's successor to its previous AR effort, Project Tango. (It's only coming to certain devices from those companies because Lens requires camera specifications that not all phones have.) It's available in English and only in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, India, France, Italy, Spain and Singapore.

The last developer preview for ARCore was made available back in December. Google reveals that we can expect these Android Go entry-level smartphones to experience 15% faster app performance with the lightweight apps and twice the amount of free storage. Google is teaming with these and other brands (including Huawei, Motorola, Nokia, Sony, Vivo and ZTE) to bring ARCore support to their upcoming handsets. Android Enterprise Recommended could make Android phones more appealing to enterprises who need resilience and manageability. Several major brands are now absent from the list though, including Samsung which already provides its own enterprise-specific features. The initial version of the service will support the company's Pixel and Pixel 2-series devices, as well as the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S7 lineups, Galaxy Note 8, LG V30 and V30 Plus, ASUS ZenFone AR, and the OnePlus 5.

Google is today taking a significant step towards democratizing Augmented Reality for Android users. Apple offers ARKit, for software makers to create AR apps for iPhones.
