Kansas City to trade CB Marcus Peters to Los Angeles Rams

Kansas City to trade CB Marcus Peters to Los Angeles Rams

Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports that the 49ers also expressed interest in making a deal for Peters in talks that went on over the last three weeks. ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the trade's completion.

While the deal has already been agreed upon, it cannot be made official until the start of a new league year on March 14th. Even better, the argument can be made that the decision to acquire Peters just helped the Rams increase their Super Bowl 53 odds to a whole new level when looking at how quickly he's made an impact at the National Football League level in just three seasons.

He has 19 interceptions and 55 passes defensed since entering the league in 2015, both league highs.

But he also found plenty of controversy. The Chiefs have dominated the division over the past couple of seasons, and Peters was a huge part of what they liked to do on the defensive side of the ball. This included him being almost ejected from a game in early December against the New York Jets where he threw the penalty flag into the stands that resulted in a one-game suspension being handed out by the Chiefs. He drew three penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct this past season.

Clark Hunt remains the only owner to openly state he'd have "no hesitation" about signing Colin Kaepernick, so jettisoning Peters for his anthem protests wouldn't match up with the team's confirmed statements on the subject. Peters then left the field without having been ejected, infamously returning a few minutes later without socks.

The Rams and Chiefs play next season in Mexico City. He's due to count $3.049 million against the cap this season. The trade is expected to involve draft pick compensation for the Chiefs, but not any players.
