International Olympic Committee to decide Russia's fate today

International Olympic Committee to decide Russia's fate today

Canadian Olympic Committee president Tricia Smith doesn't want the Russian team to have their national flag restored for Sunday's closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics.

Despite the ban, a large number of Russian athletes have been allowed to take part in the Games by the International Olympic Committee, and are competing under the banner "Olympic Athletes from Russia" (OAR).

"Sergeeva refused to open the "B" sample", Makarova said.

But after three-and-a-half hours of talks, the executive board failed to come to a decision about lifting the ban on Russian Federation, and were set to resume discussions early on Sunday. The International Olympic Committee will decide today if the country can use its flag at tomorrow's closing ceremony.

Deadspin found a video from before the Olympic Games that makes Sergeeva's positive test even more embarrassing.

That's why bobsled pilot Nadezhda Sergeeva proudly wore a t-shirt that proclaimed, "I don't do doping". "I feel it. Maybe it's a sign to them that we're clean", Sergeeva said.

Krushelnitckii was stripped of the Olympic mixed doubles curling bronze medal he won with wife Anastasia Bryzgalova by the CAS anti-doping division on Thursday (February 22).

The OAR team are the third biggest at the Games, behind Canada and the United States.

"If we are here, and we are clean", Sergeeva told Yahoo Sports at the games after she and her bobsled partner finished 12th on Wednesday.

On Friday, that same bobsledder failed a doping test.

A Russian Olympic athlete who declared her anti-doping stance on a jumper emblazoned with the slogan, "I Don't Do Doping, I Am Za Sport', has tested positive for a banned substance".

They have the option to "partially or fully" lift Russia's suspension, which was imposed in December after investigations revealed a highly orchestrated doping plot culminating at the Sochi Games where Russian Federation topped the medals table.

Meanwhile, members of the U.S. biathlon team have announced that they will not take part in next month's World Cup final - because it is being staged in Russian Federation.
