More flooding expected this weekend in Midwest

More flooding expected this weekend in Midwest

More rain is on the way Saturday afternoon and evening, and Dent County is under a flood warning, according to the National Weather Service.

Judge Executive Todd Ruckel says local officials are prepared for the minor river flooding and are also prepared should weekend rains result in any additional flash flooding in the county.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that emergency responders rescued one woman when her SUV went into the Salt Fork outside Champaign.

Clearing skies will be expected for Sunday with temperatures slightly cooler. Showers and thunderstorms will persist across much of the area on Friday, with flooding and flash flooding remaining a major concern, especially along and near the I-30 and US-67 corridor. Rain will become heavy in spots through Saturday night and into early Sunday morning. There's a 90 percent chance of rain at night with a quarter of an inch to a half inch possible.

Evacuations grew elsewhere across the Midwest after heavy rains and snowmelt sent rivers and streams out of their banks.

TONIGHT: Our active weather pattern will come to an end for a little while tonight as this final batch of rain moves out. It appears as though the heaviest of the rainfall will affect our southernmost counties, while the northern ¾ of the viewing area will see and inch or less.

Friday night will bring light rain, forecasters believe, with a low of 39 degrees.

Friday morning rounds of rain continue from Texas to Ohio. But more rain is now forecast for later in the week.

Monday and Tuesday should be mostly sunny with daytime highs approaching 50, and nighttime lows of 35.
