Boston Bruins go all-in, acquire Rick Nash from New York Rangers

Boston Bruins go all-in, acquire Rick Nash from New York Rangers

However, Nash still has great hands, is hard to move off the puck, provides a net-front presence on the power play, is a strong defensive forward and quality penalty killer.

The New York Rangers have agreed to trade winger Rick Nash to the Boston Bruins in exchange for centre Ryan Spooner, winger Matt Beleskey, prospect defenceman Ryan Lindgren, a 2018 first-round pick, and a 2019 seventh round pick.

The Rangers are slipping out of playoff contention in going 5-16 in their past 21 games since January 7, and have lost six straight in preparing to host Detroit on Sunday.

The Boston Bruins acquired goal-scoring forward Rick Nash from the New York Rangers in a four-player trade, the teams announced Sunday.

Nash will meet the Bruins in Buffalo and is considered available for tonight's game against the Sabres. He is in his final year of a contract that carries a $2.825 million salary-cap hit and will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights. However, cap complications prompted some creativity on both parties, as illustrated with NY taking on Matt Beleskey's contract and retaining half of the remaining cap hit on Rick Nash.

This trade is one of a few that NY has made so far, and they aren't finished especially with teams calling in to inquire about defenseman Ryan McDonagh.

With the deal, the Rangers now have nine picks in this upcoming draft, including two in each of the first three rounds.

Nash spent the last six seasons with the Rangers. Since submitting his trade list earlier this month, Nash has made it clear he'd prefer to remain a Ranger but has been anticipating a deal.

Nash is the Blue Jackets' all-time leader in games played (674), goals (289), assists (258) and points (547). "I love being a Ranger, love being in NY". Once a Ranger, always a Ranger.

Spooner is a good player having 25 points (9 G, 16 A) through 39 games played this year, but could never pass one of Boston's many good players. Lindgren was Boston's second-round pick, 49th overall, in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

He could become a staple on the Ranger's blueline and is the other key piece besides Spooner to this trade.

Beleskey has 10 seasons of National Hockey League experience, including the past three with Boston. He has also appeared in 77 career postseason games, recording 41 points (15 goals, 26 assists).
