Hegazi features in 5th consecutive loss for West Brom

Hegazi features in 5th consecutive loss for West Brom

Pardew said that he "hoped" to stay in the role and accepted the decision would not be his.

Craig Dawson scored to give the Baggies hope of a comeback, but it was deflated and West Brom is now seven points back of safety with 10 matches to play.

Florent Hadergjonaj blocked a McClean shot as the half drew to a close, ahead of West Brom's best chance of the half where a Phillips cross was met by on the volley by McClean, but squirmed off target. Pardew's contract runs until 2020 but as revealed by Sportsmail on Saturday the deal contains and end-of-season break clause on both sides.

The win is the Yorkshire club's second league win in a row and moves them up to 14th in the table - three points above the relegation zone.

Jonny Evans, Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill apologised for breaking curfew and were each fined two-weeks' wages but some supporters have not forgiven them.

According to a report from the Express and Star, Chris Brunt was livid with his West Brom teammates following the final whistle in their defeat to Huddersfield Town at the weekend and criticised Alan Pardew for his tactics in the loss.

This was enough for some home fans to head for the exits while others vented spleen with a loud chorus of "You're not fit to wear the shirt".

Huddersfield Town's bid for Premier League survival will depend on how they respond to defeats in the remaining 11 games of the season, manager David Wagner said.

'This team has won three games in 37 games, which says everything. "My job is to try to get ourselves up as best we can for next week". There's no point me defending myself or defending players.

"But in these situations it only count to win, fight and do everything to get a result over the line so I am absolutely delighted".

And he mused perhaps West Brom had the prospect of fighting to win promotion from the Championship in mind when Pardew was given the job.

"This was our opportunity today to get us rolling and of course we've let that slip", explained Pardew.
