Regina high school marks Pink Day with anti-bullying rally

For the past four years, the group has organized Pink Shirt Day in PG where fundraisers bring in money to help support the group's local proactive mentoring programs. Kindness, the kids said, is the encouragement they receive from a counselor, help from a friend and hug from a sibling. "For me it's invigorating to see all the kids in the stands". We have to understand what role do we play.

All Albertans are encouraged to participate by sharing pink shirt photos on social media with the hashtag #PinkShirtDay.

RCMP also wants to remind parents to speak to their children about bullying to ensure they aren't silent victims.

Standing left to right, Pleasant Valley seniors Cara Burditt, Sarah Katris-Tyler and Savannah Banuelos go around the McManus School multipurpose room, asking students to tell them about acts of kindness Wednesday in Chico.

DPD chief Neil Dubord was happy to see his team win, especially after the fire fighters won past year.

"It's really important teaching kids all about digital literacy and just how much their digital footprint carries forward, they may make some decisions to put something in a text, but our job is to help them undertand the impact of that and really think before they text".

The movement began in 2007 as a way for two Nova Scotia students to support a fellow student bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. This week, the Red Cross will hold Imagine No Bullying presentations at 30 schools.

"The shirts will remain the property of Harwood elementary and will be given out to students each year to wear so that they all can feel they are able to participate in spreading a message of unity against bullying", said Godard.

"It takes no effort at all to be nice to those around you, and it takes even less effort to pay kindness forward".

"We need to keep our children safe from cyberbullying and intolerance in schools, in the community and at home", said Jen Mezei, president of the B.C. Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils.
