Corey Brewer 'likely' to sign with Thunder on Friday

Corey Brewer 'likely' to sign with Thunder on Friday

Brewer, 31, is in the final year of the three-year, $23 million contract he signed with the Rockets in 2015.

According to National Basketball Association insider Sam Amick, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New Orleans Pelicans are all targeting Corey Brewer who was recently bought out by the Los Angeles Lakers.

In case you didn't know.

Per Marc Stein of The New York Times, Brewer and the Lakers are negotiating a buyout that would allow the veteran to join a title contending team (h/t LakersNation).

According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Brewer could be reunited with Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Billy Donovan. But since moving into the starting lineup on February 2, he has averaged 12.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and shot 48.9 percent from 3-point range. However, he was only averaging 3.7 points over 12 minutes a game this year for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Thunder have played all season with 14 players on their active roster, one below the league maximum.

The Thunder are slated to play back-to-back games against the Phoenix Suns on Friday and the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday.

While Donovan's history with Brewer could quite possibly cause a revival in Brewer's career and make a significant bench contributor out of him, Brewer does not exactly have the best of track records. He was the seventh overall pick in the 2007 draft after winning the NCAA National Championship with Al Horford at Florida. With Larry Nance Jr. making a difference defensively, Brewer could be an offensive threat from the bench.
