Hope Hicks, Key Member of Donald Trump's Inner Circle, Is Leaving

Hope Hicks, Key Member of Donald Trump's Inner Circle, Is Leaving

Wednesday afternoon was not the first time in recent weeks that Hope Hicks cried in the West Wing.

She has also been interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller, in his expansive probe of Russian interference of the 2016 election and potential misdeeds committed by those in the president's orbit. She is credited behind the scenes for stabilizing the communications operation. Asked about the email on Tuesday, she told the committee she did not view it as significant, the sources said.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders refused to comment Tuesday on whether the White House had instructed Hicks to cooperate, noting she was "not going to comment on leaks". One purported leaked detail from her testimony that appeared in press reports said Hicks admitted that she felt the need, sometimes, to lie for the president. She worked to defend him when charges of domestic abuse against his two former wives emerged.

While she cut a discreet figure in the White House - refusing all interviews - the former advisor to Ivanka Trump was known around the West Wing for her close relationship with the president's family and as a keen defender of his image.

Ms Hicks helped craft the White House's initial supportive response.

In a sign of the high turnover in Trump's administration, Hicks was the fourth person to head the communications team - her immediate predecessor, the brash Anthony Scaramucci, having lasted just 10 headspinning days in the role. "She is as smart and thoughtful as they come, a truly great person", Trump said in a statement released by the White House.

"I totally understood. I am sure we will work together again in the future", Trump said.

"It's a big shakeup", he said, adding, however, it should not be unexpected she would leave.

"That's exactly right and I think you have to consider the nature of those white lies and why did she have to tell those white lies, or whatever color the lies, were in the first place?" Investigators wanted to know whether Hicks in fact knew there had been contacts.

Well, "coffee cup" or not, Trump clearly trusts Hicks and author Michael Wolff even spoke about this trust in his book "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House".

Trump Jr. said initially the meeting was about adoptions, but said later that Veselnitskaya had promised damaging information about his father's election campaign opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The president was always aware of the lack of her political experience.

Now she too is gone. And how might she navigate these issues now that she is no longer in the White House? It's hard, however, to imagine timing worse than this.

One day later, the longtime Trump aide has announced she is leaving the White House, reportedly in the next few weeks. The White House did not say. She had not yet had the chance to tell many of her colleagues as the news reverberated around Washington that one of the president's closest and senior-most aides, whom he considered a third daughter, was leaving him, and all of them, behind.

There was no indication that Republicans would subpoena Ms. Hicks.

Her first brush with the first family of the United States was through this job as Ivanka was Hiltzik Strategies' client for her fashion line. the firm also handled several projects of the Trump ventures.

Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, a member of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee investigating alleged Russian meddling, said that she now needed to testify.

"That's an overly broad claim of privilege that I don't think any court of law would sustain".

She said nine: "Hi".
