Tiger Woods makes exciting announcement ahead of The Masters

Tiger Woods makes exciting announcement ahead of The Masters

The four-time Masters victor announced Friday that before he heads to Magnolia Lane he will start two PGA Tour events - next week's Valspar Championship, which he has never played, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he owns eight of his 79 tour victories.

The decision to play the Valspar and Arnold Palmer events means Woods will play in all three Florida tournaments leading up to the Masters, which will be held April 5-8 at Augusta National.

He was, however, widely expected to be at Bay Hill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he claimed eight of his 79 Tour victories. The Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course will represent Woods' fourth PGA Tour start of the season. For the sake of comparison, in his last two truly healthy years (2012-13) Woods also played five tournaments prior to the Masters.

Woods is coming off a 12th-place finish at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., his third official event since returning from spinal fusion surgery last April.

Woods noted after the Honda Classic that he needs to get stronger and sharper before driving down Magnolia Lane.

Woods is now at a point where he feels his body will be able to play week after week and compete.

"How high he can get, I don't know, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if he made a run". Get back in the gym and keep it strong.

"I watched him a little last week and he looks really good", Feherty told Omnisport on Friday.

For McIlroy, who actually fared better in the company of Tiger at the Genesis Open than he did without him at PGA National, it will be his first stint at the Tampa-area tournament as well. That was the goal when I first came back.

Woods recorded excellent swing speed off the tee, hit the greens in regulation in a majority of the holes in the final round, and recorded a 361-yard drive at the Honda Classic.
