USA student 'kills parents in dorm room'

USA student 'kills parents in dorm room'

James Davis Sr. and Diva Davis, both 47, were discovered in the residence hall, according to police.

James Eric Davis Jr is suspected of gunning down his mother and father in his dormitory a day after he went to hospital for a drug-related issue.

More than 100 officers from local, state and federal police agencies searched for the suspect after the shooting.

The Central Michigan University student wanted in connection with Friday's shooting deaths of his parents has been arrested, authorities said. They offered a description and had asked the community to call 911 and avoid approaching the suspect should they see him.

"Whether there was a mental health component that was in conjunction with that, we don't know", Klaus said, telling reporters there are "pieces of the puzzle" police are still trying to put together as they investigate the suspected shooter and his motive".

He was arrested and remains at a local hospital as of 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to police, the couple came to the University to pick up his son home for a week-long spring break, but the 19-year-old man opened fire on parents.

Schools in the area were put on lock down as a precaution after the shooting.

James Davis Sr. was a police officer in Bellwood, Illinois, reports said. He was arrested without incident, authorities said early Saturday. He was taken into custody after being seen passing through the campus early Saturday, CNN reported.

"We were already active in seeing what we can do on our campuses and in our schools to protect our students better", he said.

Gov. Rick Snyder on Friday offered support for the students of CMU and said the state will offer whatever is needed to "deal with this traumatic event".

Police had called on Mount Pleasant residents to help locate Davis on Friday.

He said police had first come into contact with Davis Jr. on Thursday morning when he came running into a community police officer's office in his dorm "very frightened" and "not making a lot of sense".

David Litt, a former speechwriter for President Barack Obama who helped write many of Obama's comedy speeches, said he thinks Trump "is in a potentially odd spot where he either attacks the press in a way that works really well at a rally but just gets crickets in that room, or he has spent the past two years calling reporters "fake news" and then suddenly admits it's just the act".

"It's very hard to say on our campus that two people were killed", Yeagley said.

The Davis family was from the Chicago area. He served on the Bellwood Police Department for 20 years, said Bellwood Mayor Andre Harvey.

An Army veteran, he was also a police officer employed at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, said center director Marc Magill. "We are now providing grief counseling for staff", Magill said.
