Amazon to stop selling Google Nest's smart home devices

Amazon to stop selling Google Nest's smart home devices

Amazon has put its resources into developing its own smart home gadget system with Alexa, especially the Echo, and the Nest line of products is its biggest competitor.

The report comes from Business Insider, with the site claiming Amazon informed Nest it would stop listing the firm's products late past year. Because of that, Nest has chose to stop selling all of its products on the online retail giant as soon as inventory is sold out. The Nest team stated that it was not related to the quality of the product, especially considering it has mostly rave reviews on Amazon, but a decision that was ultimately handed down by the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos.

Amazon has previously sent a middle finger to Google in 2015, when it retaliated against Chromecast and Apple TV for not allowing easy access to its Prime video offerings by striking the devices from its shelves. While there appeared to be some reconciliation a year ago after an announcement on Google Chromecasts resuming sales on the e-commerce platform, they still aren't available three months later.

Amazon's move marks the latest development in their rocky relationship over the future of the smart home.

Amazon recently acquired Ring, a manufacturer of internet-connected cameras and door locks for over $1 billion.

The online retailer had steadfastly refused to sell some Google-branded products like the Google Home voice assistant speaker and the company's Pixel smartphones.

Technically, you still might find Nest products through third-party sellers in the Marketplace program. Amazon now sells a limited number of Nest products but they will be removed from the retail giant's website once all of the inventory has been sold. Amazon continues to sell similar products from other manufacturers such as August, Lighthouse, etc. But officially, Nest will probably be gone from Amazon in a few months' time. It will be interesting to see how the war between Amazon and Google pans out, as the companies come in increasingly direct competition with each other in segments ranging from home automation to digital ads.
