Barnaby Joyce unsure if he is father of partner's child

Barnaby Joyce has revealed that he may not be the father of partner Vikki Campion's baby boy that she is expecting in April.

Mr Joyce stood down this week as deputy prime minister, making way for new face, former veterans affairs minister, Michael McCormack.

He released a subsequent statement, saying he had "no choice" other than to confront continuing rumours and media questions about the baby, who's due next month.

The Nationals Party backbencher held a press conference today in which he implored the nation's publications to quit snooping around his private life. "So we're not here to be part of some ongoing litany of discussions about this", Mr Joyce told reporters in Tamworth on Monday. It's personal and that's the last question I'm going to answer. He said he would not be taking any tests to prove paternity.

Joyce and Campion together at airport

"The matters that are in the papers today relating to Barnaby and Ms Campion are matters for them to resolve and I don't have any comments to make on it at all", he told reporters in western Sydney on Sunday.

The former deputy prime minister claims he was on a trip to Europe at around the time she conceived.

Mr Joyce was also highly critical of media organisations that had taken photographs of he and Ms Campion at Canberra Airport on Friday.
