Houston Rockets beat Boston Celtics for 15th straight win

Houston Rockets beat Boston Celtics for 15th straight win

The team's second unit turned in its best performance of the season in Saturday night's loss to the Houston Rockets. Boston ended up holding one of the league's best offenses to 98 points and pulled out the improbable victory by one point.

The Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets brought the National Basketball Association another game of the year candidate, but this time the Celtics came up on the losing end.

When you compare the Celtics to the top teams in this league, they have the kind of high end talent that is catching up.

"In the first half they were getting a lot of easy looks, they made us scramble defensively".

But Morris scored five straight points after that to push Boston's lead to 108-102 and prompt D'Antoni to call a timeout with about 6 1/2 minutes left. But defense was the deciding factor in this one.

Terry Rozier hit a three-pointer to put the Celtics up 113-107 with 4:01 left.

"Early on in the game they were hot, they made so many threes". With 2.8 seconds left, Irving missed on goal again, but he didn't hit the rim to turn the ball over.

Boston took the first meeting this season by rallying from a 26-point deficit for a 99-98 win on December 28. Houston followed with a couple of misses by James Harden and Ariza which Horford followed up with another miss.

The Celtics had a surprising start to the year, but have since tapered off.

At this point, there were only 23 seconds left to play and Houston had the ball. Not a single one of the second unit players finished the game with a negative plus minus, and they truly did everything possible to win the game. But the Celtics scored the next four points to make it 74-67. Somehow both teams found enough time to foul each other and take ten more total free throws in the final seconds of the game.

Nearly two minutes into the second, the Rockets were finally able to get on the board to end the C's 14-0 run, which eventually turned into an 18-2 run and a 40-32 lead for the Celtics with just under 10 minutes to play in the half. "We still have to prove ourselves".

Rockets guard Eric Gordon led all scorers with 29 points (7-11 3PT) and three rebounds. Trevor Ariza complemented his usually stellar defense with 21 points and a number of big plays late. Irving and Al Horford do not have to deal with too much pressure, and Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum do not have to go out of their comfort zone. He had 21 points and was 5-7 from three-point.

"I just thought they maximized more possessions than we did", Boston coach Brad Stevens said. The loss drops the Celtics to 44-20, three games behind the Toronto Raptors in the loss column for the best record in the East. They will try to get back on the right side of the scoreboard when they take on the Bulls in Chicago Monday night.

The Rockets used a late surge in the final four minutes to beat the Boston Celtics 123-120 for their 15th consecutive win, the team's longest run since the 1993-94 season.
