Warner and De Kock in dressing room altercation

Warner and De Kock in dressing room altercation

Some of the heated exchange was caught on CCTV camera, on mute.

Australia is on the brink of taking the lead in the four-match Test series after reducing South Africa to 293 for 9 at the end of day four's play at Kingsmead in Durban.

Details of Warner's reply to De Kock during the heated exchanges is not out yet, according to the newspaper report.

The Australian athlete was restrained from moving towards the Proteas' wicketkeeper-batsman by Usman Khawaja, and later Tim Paine before he was pushed away by captain Steve Smith.

A he said/she said narrative has since broken out over the spat, with captains Faf du Plessis and Steve Smith disagreeing over whether de Kock was subject to any personal sledging.

Warner was furious about personal remarks made by de Kock, believed to be about Warner's wife Candice.

"Getting personal on the field is not on".

Smith responded Gilchrist's tweet by stating, "Warner crossed many personal boundaries with the South Africans, so we can't be surprised when there is eventually a reaction".

"We've got used to Davey over the years".

"I don't know what provoked it, but it's not something you can do and you've got to be able to balance that up and contain that". He can be a bit of a fool at times.

What was said and done during that interval was regrettable from both sides.

"I'm certainly not sitting here complaining about it". I don't decide where that line is.

"Quinny's fine. when you look at him now, it's like nothing happened".

"The South Africans must be quaking in their boots at the sight of a 5ft tall David Warner coming towards them acting tough #wellard", he wrote on Twitter. "Not a good look all round".

Former Proteas skipper, Graeme Smith, did not enjoy the manner it was all played out and has asked the side to pay less heed to Warner.

Smith said he could "absolutely" understand the reaction of Warner. He is a typical bully.

First, we saw how David Warner gave a send back to AB De Villiers when the stalwart batsman got run out.

De Villiers made a despairing dive but was well short and Lyon leapt over him in celebration, dropping the ball on his opponent before joining his team mates in a jig of joy.

South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee said: "It's rather unfortunate that the incident took place and certainly not in the spirit of the game".

Australia have already had one issue with the hosts' hospitality.

"CA is working to establish the facts of what occurred and will not be commenting until this has been done".

I can tell you that David Warner is very personal and can assure you that whatever was said, Warner has said worse.

Starc had match figures of nine for 109 and was particularly effective against South Africa's tailenders.
