Allen Robinson to be a free agent; Can Eagles afford him?

Allen Robinson to be a free agent; Can Eagles afford him?

As he heads into free agency, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo has reported the Jaguars are not expected to use the franchise tag on Robinson.

But it's likely the team believes the combination of Allen Hurns (recently extended), Dede Westbrook (emerged during 2017, also 24 years old) and Keenan Cole (748 yards last season, also 24) gives them enough cheap talent at the position to let Robinson walk. The timing of his ACL tear could work to his advantage, as much as such an injury could be ideal, with the expectation he'll be able to participate in training camp and Week 1 being precisely one year after his injury. The Jaguars, thanks largely to quarterback Blake Bortles' new contract and 2018 cap number of $10 million, had plenty of space under the salary cap to pay Robinson the $15.982 million the franchise tag carries in 2018. At the moment, the third-highest paid receiver is Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys, who has an annual salary of $16.5 million.

Robinson recorded 80 receptions for 1,400 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns in 2015.

Robinson played only one game last season before tearing his ACL. After all, they have just about a week.

Robinson could be one of two Jaguars receivers hitting the market. But they've gotten a little help on that front from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Of course, the Jags still have time to re-sign Robinson, but there's a possibility they could be looking to the draft to find a new playmaker who they can groom as they did with him. According to Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars will not be tagging him.

- 5. Jordan Matthews (Bills): This 6-3 target produced over 2,600 yards and 19 touchdowns his first three seasons with the Eagles before a 2017 trade to the run-oriented Bills.
