Kyle Fuller to Receive Transition Tag from Bears

Kyle Fuller to Receive Transition Tag from Bears

The last player to get the transition tag was tight end Charles Clay in 2015. The exclusive franchise tag makes it so the player can only negotiate with his team, and the non-exclusive franchise tag makes it so if a player signs with another team, his original team gets two first-round picks.

The team placed the transition tag on the fourth-year cornerback on Tuesday, meaning they will now have the right of first refusal to match any offer he may receive from another team. Now the Bears should be able to hold onto him, and they'll save a little money compared to what they would have paid with the franchise tag.

The Bears have come up with a more creative and less expensive way of keeping free-agent cornerback Kyle Fuller.

The Bears, however, run the risk of losing Fuller without receiving compensation.

In 2017, Fuller finally broke out and replicated the success from his rookie season, compiling 67 tackles, 22 pass deflections, and a pair of interceptions while starting in all 16 games.

It saved his tenure with the Bears, and they want to see who the real Fuller is.

.

The Bears didn't go as far as they couldto retain the services of Kyle Fuller, but they're not going to let him go without a fight. Their next two corners on the depth chart, Bryce Callahan and Cre'Von LeBlanc, have both played well but are better suited in the slot.

A first-round pick out of Virginia Tech back in 2014, Fuller put up an uneven performance in each of his first three National Football League seasons.

Why did the Bears give Fuller the transition tag?

Since they decided not to exercise the fifth year option for their former first round pick, Fuller had the chance to hit the free agent market next week-that is, if the Bears decided not to tag him.
