International Women's Day 2018: On this Women's Day, let's talk about men

International Women's Day 2018: On this Women's Day, let's talk about men

And in so doing, through their hard work and tenacity, contribute to the economy - a part not so many of us seem to understand and appreciate.

Richard Herring at the Great Yorkshire Fringe in 2016. Today, International Woman's Day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere and is not claimed by any one country, group or organization.

As is also the case every year without fail, however, some men feel the need to question why there is no such thing as an International Men's Day and those men aren't shy of asking that question aloud, or on social media at least.

Coinciding with International Women's Day the survey, released today (8 March), sheds light on the perceived progress of gender equality in the legal profession, with unconscious bias cited as the most prevalent obstacle to women reaching senior positions.

Along with International Women's Day, the United Nations have an agreement to affirm equity amongst women and men. And trying to achieve equality.

The ten values that guide International Women's Day are: Justice, Dignity, Hope, Equality, Collaboration, Tenacity, Appreciation, Respect, Empathy, and Forgiveness. Our women are engaged in nearly, if not all, the productive sectors of the society, from commerce to engineering, from education to policy making, from being the head of their house-holds to being those house-holds main bread earners. But as the number of people asking never seems to decrease, it's a busy day for me. We insist that stakeholders should promote and support women empowerment for sustainable development.

Even before midday, the fundraising total had already passed £45,000, and the target was expected to be increased to £100,000. The gap widens once annual bonuses and other additional payments are included, with women earning about 73 cents for every dollar that men earn.

However, she pointed out the work that still needed to be done in this regard.

We are fortunate at this time to have a distinguished woman serving as our International Director; Lion Nicolin has broken the glass ceiling for our women and we salute her or laying the path for the future aspiring ladies.

While March 8 reminds us of the importance of women in our family, society and nation, we got to do more. And while some women may prefer a male-dominated society, having a choice in the matter is obviously critical in so many facets of life, from the workplace to the homestead. Across the world, this day is celebrated in different ways.
