Peters to carry flag for NZ

Peters to carry flag for NZ

Pyeongchang had organized a joint ceremony for South and North Korean athletes to match during the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2018.

South Korea's Paralympic team is determined to emulate the success of the Winter Olympics squad, setting out to collect at least four medals.

The official welcome ceremony for the North Korean athletes, along with the delegations of China, Uzbekistan and Georgia, will take place tomorrow Thursday at the Villa.

The 26-year-old Red Lodge-based athlete will be taking part in his first Games, and along with team-mates James Barnes-Miller and Ben Moore will become the first British athletes in history to compete in para-snowboard at the Paralympic Games.

The DPRK athletes are scheduled to participate in several sports events, including cross-country skiing, on March 11 and 14, and will return home before the Paralympics closing ceremony on March 18.

There will be 24 athletes affiliated with B.C. including Mel Pemble, who started her journey at the 2014 BC Winter Games and went on to compete at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

The last time major global talks were held to persuade North Korea to disarm were the Six-Party Talks involving North and South Korea, the US, China Japan, and Russian Federation.

The South has since announced plans to hold a historic summit between the North's leader and Moon.

In response to the North's declare, the Worldwide Paralympics Committee stated the 2 Koreas will march individually because the flag can't be modified.

South Korean ice hockey player Choi Kwang-hyouk was born in the North and lost a leg in a train accident as a child, before later defecting to the South.

In January, the IPC reiterated that the ban would be maintained throughout the PyeongChang Games, despite the International Olympic Committee's announcement last week that Russia's Olympic membership has been reinstated.

"For an athlete, the public's support and attention are important and encouraging".

"They have bipartite invitations from us due to their circumstances". "We have more broadcasters than ever before set to cover the Winter Paralympics which shows the growing global interest in para sport".

Two Russian athletes, curler Aleksandr Krushelnitckii and bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeeva, were tested positive for doping at the Olympics, with the former being stripped of his bronze medal.
