Six takeaways from the Nidahas Trophy

Six takeaways from the Nidahas Trophy

Dinesh Karthik turned India's hero on Sunday night as the wicket-keeper hit a last ball six against Bangladesh to help India lift the Nidahas Trophy. Even some of the Sri Lankan players did "Nagin dance" while celebrating just to mock the Bangladeshi players.

Dinesh Karthik has been playing global cricket for the last 14 years but he is still fighting for a permanent spot in the Indian team. "A few of the guys who are experienced are nurturing the younger guys". That the Nidahas Trophy provided the entertainment it did will, perhaps, encourage boards to schedule T20I tri-series even during periods when they know teams may rest some of their players.

"We have shown that we can be consistent in T20Is", said Mushfiq who scored 182 runs - including two successive half centuries each one of 72* runs against Sri Lanka and India in the league phase respectively - in five games in the Nidahas Trophy. "We knew he (Karthik) could finish off the game for us". "I want to thank the support staff for the effort they have put in", the 32-yearold said.

Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar - a parallel to Hardik Pandya in specialisation - recently made his worldwide T20 debut at the Nidahas Trophy and a crucial two-wicket haul against Bangladesh in the group stage had initiated comparisons.

Rohit hit his 14th T20 worldwide and with his dismissal in the 14th over, India needing 69 in 40 balls, in walked the main man, Karthik and what followed was a carnage of runs in Premdasa Stadium, Colombo. India was at a comfortable position till the 17th over and required 34 runs from 18 balls. But his wide half-volley was drilled over the extra cover rope by Karthik as the India dressing room erupted in wild celebrations. He consistently bowled in the Powerplay, and always kept us in the games.

Shakib also said that he didn't say much to Soumya whilst he bowled the final over. Not anyone can just take the pressure of bowling within the Powerplay.

Shakib also paid tribute to Karthik for they way he won the game for his team under vast pressure.

"We have a bunch of skilled bowlers and I have a feeling we will be a good fielding unit, too. Credit goes to them but we can not take anything away from us for the way we played throughout this tournament", said Shakib. "With Wriddhiman Saha doing so well for sometime, I am glad to be back in the fold of things", adds Karthik, who also dismissed comparisons with the legendary M. S. Dhoni.
