Internal FBI report shows discrepancy between McCabe and Comey accounts

Internal FBI report shows discrepancy between McCabe and Comey accounts

A GoFundMe fundraiser set up to cover the legal bills of fired former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe raised six figures within just a few hours Thursday, exceeding expectations and prompting the organizers to increase the goal of the campaign from $150,000 to $250,000. He said he thought he was a political target because he was a key witness in the special counsel Robert Mueller's inquiry into whether Trump tried to obstruct an ongoing federal investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election. Comey, the report states, recalled that McCabe had denied authorizing Federal Bureau of Investigation officials speak to the Journal, the source said. "The notion that the two guys are pitted against each other is insane".

"He lied four times", Jordan said.

Meadows noted that the report's findings aren't "about politics" at all, even though Democratic lawmakers and media members often portray GOP lawmakers' concerns about the Justice Department's and FBI's integrity as such.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions cited reasons for McCabe's firing was due to internal investigations that alleged the former deputy director displayed a "lack of candor" to congressional investigators and that he had leaked information to the media.

"James Comey's been fired".

The number of times McCabe was accused of lying had not been public.

The Justice Department has made the report available for both Republicans and Democrats in Congress to review, according to another source familiar with the matter.

The action represents an escalation of the battle between McCabe and the administration over his firing amid heavy criticism by President Donald Trump.

On the other hand, they are defending a man the FBI's own Office of Professional Responsibility recommended be fired, a man who the DOJ inspector general says lied under oath and leaked to undermine the Clinton investigation.

"I have never before seen the type of rush to judgment - and rush to summary punishment - that we have witnessed in this case", Bromwich said in a statement after McCabe's firing. "He lied to [former FBI Director] James Comey, he lied to the Office of Professional Responsibility, and he lied twice under oath to the inspector general".

"I don't know why the Attorney General keeps postponing this", Jordan said.

McCabe's legal team is notably being led by former Department of Justice Inspector General Michael R. Bromwich at Robbins, Russell, Englert, Orseck, Untereiner & Sauber LLP. McCabe has maintained that he later corrected earlier information he provided to investigators.
