Buzzing Today: Thugs storm Senate Seize Mace

Omo-Agege had reportedly led hoodlums into the senate chamber to steal the mace.

"The session is holding with the mace, the official symbol of authority firmly in place, and Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, presiding", Senate spokesman Sabi Abdullahi said in a statement.

According to Premium Times, the Senate resumed its plenary around an hour after the incident after finding a replacement mace.

"Today, some hoodlums ... seized the symbol of authority of the Upper Legislative Chamber, the mace", he said in a statement.

Thugs suspected to be loyalists of the suspended Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ovie Omo-Agege on Wednesday broke into the hallowed chambers of the Senate and stole the mace. Others lamented over the incident wondering how the hoodlums made their way into the Red Chambers despite security.

Mr Omo-Agege after the incident returned to the Senate chamber where he attended the plenary session.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) have reacted to Wednesday's invasion of National Assembly and seizure of Senate's mace by thugs.

"Following the said media reports on the Mace issue, the Police authorities chose to hear from Senator Omo-Agege".

Ripples Nigeria had reported recently that there were moves to unseat Saraki by aggrieved senators unhappy with his style of leadership.

Omo-Agege was suspended for dragging the Senate to court.

The Senator has, however, been arrested and the mace recovered. There is a serious uproar within the national assembly at the moment. The session is presently live on NTA Channel 10.
