HTC Announces May 23 Event, Likely to Unveil U12

HTC launched the current U11 nearly exactly a year ago in 2017, so the time is ripe for HTC to bring out its successor. The device will sport top of the line hardware to give a tough rivalry to the Galaxy S9-series and the OnePlus 6.

On the official Twitter account, HTC has posted an image depicting a new launch event to happen on 23rd May 2018. While companies usually resort to showing glimpses of the design of the smartphone, HTC has gone for something different. That doesn't sound particularly exciting, we would say, and definitely doesn't offer the hype one would expect for a flagship. A "Plus" moniker could signify a huge upgrade over the HTC U11+ since technically, it does succeed the U11+ and not the U12+. The device will be a successor the U11+ which was launched a year ago. The image behind the revealed date is believed to hint at what these specifications may be, indicating that the upcoming smartphone will house a dual-camera for both the rear and the front. This could mean that the standard HTC U12 houses a single front-facing camera, with the dual front-facing reserved for its higher-end handset.

The HTC U12+ is also expected to have an 18:9 aspect ratio and an all-glass build. The smartphone will run Android 8.0 Oreo operating system topped with the Sense UI of the company and will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The smartphone will come with IP68 rating and will pack a 3420mAh battery. Leaks suggest that it would be a 16MP primary sensor paired with a 12MP secondary sensor.
