Tornado watch issued for Berks and surrounding counties

Tornado watch issued for Berks and surrounding counties

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for eight New Jersey counties.

Thunderstorms are expected to move into the region this evening, bringing the potential for damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain, according to the NWS. Hail and/or wind reaching severe criteria is also possible with these two rounds of storms. Gusts of up to 75 miles per hour are possible. Southern Jersey is expected to bear the brunt of the action, especially south of I-195. While the t-storm threat will come to an end, lingering low-level moisture will remain keeping plenty of clouds around with occasional showers and areas of drizzle.

For Mother's Day on Sunday, expect mostly cloudy skies with the chance for some showers or sprinkles. However, even though temperatures will bounce back into the mid 70s on Monday, then top out in the low 80s Tuesday, and well into the 70s Wednesday and Thursday, a corridor of moisture is always looming near.

The reason for hail being the primary concern in this scenario is that temperatures will be cold; supporting a freezing level that is close to the ground for this time of year. However, if the area ends up ahead of the front, Theodore said temperatures could be around 80 degrees. Have a fantastic Mother's Day Weekend!
