McCain's Daughter on WH Aide's Remark

McCain's Daughter on WH Aide's Remark

The Latest on Sen.

Meanwhile, the White House has so far dodged questions about Sadler's remark, with Sanders saying she would not comment "on an internal staff meeting".

The incident came the same day a retired Air Force general called McCain "songbird John" during an appearance on Fox Business Network for allegedly providing information to the North Vietnamese while he was a prisoner of war.

Both publicly and privately, according to the sources, Sanders has focused more on the leaking of the comment than its substance.

McCain has recounted stories of lying to his interrogators under torture, including giving them the names of the Green Bay Packers' offensive line instead of the names of his own squadron.

A White House spokesman did not dispute the report and issued a statement on behalf of the White House: "We respect Senator McCain's service to our nation and he and his family are in our prayers during this hard time". Certainly there is not a tone set here.

"People have wondered when decency would hit rock bottom with this administration", Biden said in a statement.

The official, Kelly Sadler, was discussing McCain's opposition to Donald Trump's nominee for Central Intelligence Agency director, Gina Haspel, when she allegedly claimed "it doesn't matter" because "he's dying anyway". The aide said "it doesn't matter" because "he's dying anyway". McCain said he opposes her confirmation as Central Intelligence Agency director because of what she did in the past.

Biden says that given the White House's trail of disrespect toward McCain and others, the aide is not an exception to the rule, but the "epitome of it". "Our children learn from our example". And I want to say, since my dad has been diagnosed...

Mr. McCain's friends lashed out at the White House for gross insensitivity. John McCain, saying it wasn't meant to have that much impact because it was a "joke" that was made in a "private" meeting. John McCain's opposition to Central Intelligence Agency nominee Gina Haspel saying, "It doesn't matter, he's dying anyway", at a meeting of White House communications staffers Thursday.

She was at the meeting standing at the other side of the room and did not apologize for the comment, according to people in the room.

Sadler reportedly said the view of McCain - a six-term senator, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee and former prisoner of war - was immaterial because "he's dying anyway".

"I'm really disappointed that someone would undermine the President by leaking that out of a private meeting", he said, adding that he, as the director of the Office of Management and Budget, was not present at the meeting in which Sadler made the remark.

In a statement Wednesday evening, McCain said he believes Haspel is a "patriot who loves our country and has devoted her professional life to its service and defense".
