Robinson Cano Suffers Broken Right Hand

Robinson Cano Suffers Broken Right Hand

Castellanos left Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mariners with a finger bruise on his left hand.

Cano was hit in the third inning against the Detroit Tigers by an 88 miles per hour fastball from Tigers left-hander Blaine Hardy. It's unclear how long Cano will be out.

Cano, 35, is batting.287 with four home runs and 23 RBIs this season, his fifth with the Mariners. Seattle starter Mike Leake gave up a pair of runs on six hits over seven innings to up his record to 4-3.

Robinson Cano chased Fulmer from the game in the fifth when he hit a 3-run home run to make it 6-2 Seattle.

Gardenhire was ejected for the second time this season, and he wasn't the only one frustrated with plate umpire Carlos Torres in the nightcap.

Three relievers finished the game for Detroit, with Shane Greene pitching the ninth for his eighth save in 10 chances.

Bench coach Manny Acta was serving as Seattle's manager - with Ichiro Suzuki filling in as bench coach - because manager Scott Servais was away to watch his daughter receive a master's degree at Mississippi.

Dee Gordon grounded out to first to end it.

The teams played a doubleheader after Friday's game was rained out, and the third and final game of the series will take place at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday at Comerica Park.

Detroit purchased the contract of right-hander Louis Coleman from Triple-A Toledo. Detroit also recalled left-hander Ryan Carpenter from Toledo to be the 26th man for the second game of the doubleheader.

Cano went more than 10 years between stints on the disabled list when the Mariners placed him on the 10-day DL because of a strained right quad muscle last May.

The Detroit Tigers come off of a 5-4, ten inning defeat at Texas on Wednesday where the pen just wasn't good enough.

He stayed in the game after being checked out by Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand but then was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the second inning. Blaine Hardy (0-0) starts for the Tigers.
