The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association confirmed the news in a Facebook post today and said the defender colidded with an oncoming vehicle on his way home after dropping his kids at school.

Former Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers defender Jlloyd Samuel dies in a auto crash at the age of just 37.

"The TTFA and all his former teammates extends deepest condolences to his family in this most hard time".

According to the full TTFA statement, Samuel, who was only 37, was returning home after dropping his kids off to school at the time of the accident.

Former Aston Villa and Bolton defender Jlloyd Samuel died in a auto crash on Tuesday at the age of 37, Cheshire Police confirmed.

An athletic and composed left-footed player, he was earmarked as one of the country's most promising left backs and represented England at Under-18, Under-20 and Under-21 level.

He played junior football for Senrab, the club where a host of Premier League stars, including John Terry, Ledley King and Sol Campbell, started their careers.

Premier League and England under-21 football star Jlloyd Samuel has died in a horror crash aged just 37. The ex Aston Villa Bolton and Cardiff defender was involved in the smash moments after dropping his children off at school

Our players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect tonight and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this very hard time, ' the statement read.

Samuel was capped by England from Under-18 to Under-21 level and was an unused substitute for a senior worldwide against Sweden in 2004.

Although his application was rejected by Federation Internationale de Football Association because he was over 21 at the time, he later represented the country of his birth.

He played youth football for Charlton and joined Villa in August 1998, made his senior debut the following year and went on to make 199 appearances over nine years.

In a statement, Cheshire Police said Samuel died following a crash involving the 4x4 he was driving and a van at High Legh, near Warrington.

"His next of kin have been informed and are now being supported by specially trained officers".

It is understood that the man who was driving the van sustained serious injuries and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
