2 dead in CT, thousands without power after storms strike

A preliminary storm survey from the National Weather Service (NWS) on Wednesday said that two of the twisters hit in Putnam County, while the third was in Orange County.

The powerful storms that swept through New York's lower Hudson Valley spawned three tornadoes. He deployed members of the New York National Guard to assist with recovery operations.

While the severe storms had passed, but rain was expected to continue over the next few days along the East Coast with some 4 to 8 inches expected to fall in the area from Virginia to southern New Jersey, according to the Weather Channel.

A weather-generated tsunami, often called a meteotsunami, additionally occurred and resulted in fluctuating water ranges for a number of hours, the NWS mentioned. No damage was reported from the event.

"It's not verified whether there was tornadic activity, but it was about as close to tornadic activity in a very heavily populated area as you can get", Danbury mayor Mark Boughton told local news station WTNH.
