Scotland goalkeeper Allan McGregor seals Rangers return

And former Gers stopper Allan McGregor will rejoin the Ibrox club on a free transfer after the Hull City player of the year turned down a new offer at the KCOM.

McGregor on Twitter spoke of his delight at moving back to Rangers. It's obvious that he is below the required level in the Premier League and it was hard to judge how he would have done in the club's promotion winning campaign a year ago as he underwent heart surgery and missed a lot of action.

Hull hoped he might sign a new deal with the club, having offered him fresh terms with them.

The veteran had no hesitation in returning to the club where he started his career and is prepared to fight for the No 1 spot with Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick.

McGregor has won 35 caps for Scotland and in his first spell at Rangers he won three league titles, a hat-trick of Scottish Cups and five League Cups. He lifted 11 trophies in total for the Ibrox club. Just to be back is incredible.

'I can't keep the smile off my face, ' said McGregor.

The 36-year old played a key role in the The Tigers squad in the 2017/18 season, featured in all 46 league games for Nigel Adkin's side.

'As time goes by, you think it might not happen.

"We need to make this place (Ibrox) a fortress, where nobody wants to come".

'It came as a surprise.

"You need to win games and it doesn't matter who you are playing". Someone gave me a shout two or three weeks ago to say Bomber (John Brown) wanted my number.

"If you keep doing that, as we've seen before, that's what wins you titles".
