Sixers' Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid are finalists for National Basketball Association awards

Sixers' Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid are finalists for National Basketball Association awards

Houston star James Harden cooks up another incredible season, but Cleveland's LeBron James and New Orlean's Anthony Davis look poised to challenge his MVP bid.

Harden, who led the league in scoring, has twice been a runner-up for the award, including past year when Russell Westbrook won.

That's right, after months of whispers, think pieces and lowkey campaigning, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have been named finalists for a pair of most valuable player awards and could bring home some postseason hardware for the first time in nearly half a decade.

While Mitchell did average more points in the regular season, Simmons averaged more rebounds, assists, steals and played more effective defense than his opponent over the first 91 games of his National Basketball Association career and looks like a potential superstar.

The three finalists for the individual awards were announced Wednesday.

Davis led the league with 2.57 blocks per game.

The NBA Awards presented by Kia will also include the announcement of the winners for NBA Basketball Executive of the Year, Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award, NBA Sportsmanship Award, the Season long NBA Cares Community Assist Award and the fan-voted Play of the Year.

Davis and the Pelicans overcame a season-ending injury to sidekick DeMarcus Cousins to earn the 6th seed in the Western Conference. The Brow was an absolute monster on both ends of the court, evidenced by the fact that he also finished in the top three of the Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Simmons, Utah shooting guard Donovan Mitchell and Boston small forward Jayson Tatum are the rookie-of-the-year finalists.

The results will be announced June 25 during a televised show in Los Angeles.

Coach of the Year: Dwane Casey (Toronto Raptors), Quin Snyder (Utah Jazz) and Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics).
