Bucks hire former Atlanta head coach Mike Budenholzer as new head coach

It didn't take long for the former NBA Coach of the Year to land a new gig.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the team has reached an agreement to hire former Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer.

Milwaukee made the right choice by hiring Budenholzer. Sampson was an National Basketball Association assistant with the Bucks and Rockets before joining the Cougars 2014.Portland Trail BlazersPortland reportedly considered firing coach Terry Stotts after the team was swept in the first round of the playoffs. They're hoping that Budenholzer will be able to take them to the next level.

"Of the Hawks' assistant coaches from last season, only Chris Jent has experience with Pierce; the two worked together in Cleveland in the late 00s during LeBron James' first stint with the Cavaliers".

The Bucks originally fired their head coach, Jason Kidd, on January 22 due to a lack of on the court results. Budenholzer is inheriting a very talented roster headlined by "The Greek Freak". He never had an Antetokounmpo-like talent though, and the idea of him surrounded by nothing but 3-point shooters should be exciting for everybody associated with the Bucks. Antetokounmpo has never had the type of spacing he's going to get with Budenholzer. The Bucks also have the No. 17 pick in the draft. Budenholzer was named NBA Coach of the Year that season. In that season, he led the Hawks to a 60-22 record and they were the best team in the Eastern Conference that season before coming up short in the playoffs.

We'll be back for the next episode of the podcast some time soon, for more talk about Coach Bud and a look toward the Bucks' future. Most Popovich assistants that go on to become head coaches have success.
