Four Teams Receive NCAA Public Recognition Awards

These annual awards recognize collegiate programs that score among the top 10 percent of all programs in each sport based on the most recent multi-year April numbers.

The golf and softball teams were honored for the 12th time in 13 years while men's cross country achieved the recognition for the fifth straight year.

The latest data which was revealed on Wednesday spanned the 2013-14 through 2016-17 academic years and showed a number of different areas in which Villanova ranks at or near the top of all Division I programs for the continued academic success of its student-athletes.

The NCAA's April is created to track the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship at a particular institution.

Doug Hoffman is the associate athletic director for Utah State University Athletic Media Relations.

Also among those 13 are two teams-women's basketball and men's fencing-that won NCAA championships in 2018.

Cross country, tennis, volleyball, golf, lacrosse and gymnastics were among the Rutgers women's programs recognized, while baseball and men's cross country were cited among men's teams.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention.

Seven UCLA teams have gained recognition for their academic excellence. The University of Arkansas has earned a total of 23 awards since the start of the APR Public Recognition program.

The total number of teams being recognized increased by 79 from a year ago, largely as a result of an increase in flawless scores, according to the NCAA.

The Pepperdine teams honored were men's cross-country, golf, track and field and volleyball and women's cross-country, golf, swimming and diving, track and field and beach volleyball.

Duke's women's fencing, football and men's golf programs have earned the honor in all 13 years of the program.

Among those teams were UNC's basketball team, which received a flawless 1,000 April score, and Duke's football team.

The most recent April rates include the 2016-'17 academic year, the NCAA said.
