School Bus Crash in New Jersey Kills At Least 2, Reports Say

A full-size school bus and a dump truck collided on a New Jersey highway on Thursday morning, and multiple injures were reported. Apart from the two died, all the others were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The New Jersey-based company has a higher than average out-of-service rate - 37.9 percent compared to the national average of 20.7 percent. Officials say they're investigating the cause of the deadly crash. Two other buses not involved in the accident returned to the school, and students were dismissed early. Students screamed and some were left "hanging from their seat belts", he said.

The bus was carrying students from East Brook Middle School in Paramus to Waterloo Village, a restored 19th century canal town, officials said. They were then reunited with their families. She said they were being evaluated and treated, but she did not have ages or conditions. He said that many people were screaming. "Stuff started coming in". It's unclear what number of college students have been aboard the bus or the variety of automobiles concerned within the collision. "It was just awful what happened".

"From what I saw, the red truck was destroyed, but the bus appeared worse", Manuel Absalon, a tourist from Mexico driving by the crash site, told WNBC-TV.

Donald Lazorchek, who was picking up his son James, said the news was "shocking, very shocking", and he kept "hoping it wasn't my son".

No additional details on the children or any injuries were available.

About 10 victims were taken to St. Clare's Dover hospital and St. Clare's Denville hospital, said a hospital spokeswoman, Patty Montgomery.

Injured passengers were taken to Morristown Medical Center, St. Joseph's Hospital and Hackettstown Medical Center, according to the school district.

The operator of the dump truck, Mendez Trucking, had 33 units that drive 1.9 million miles (3.1 million km) in total in 2017 and had been involved in seven crashes over the past two years, U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration records showed. It's not clear if that driver was injured. At about 12:30 p.m., state police brought in K-9s to search the woods and areas near the scene. Evening activities for Thursday and Friday have been canceled.
