Where things stand in Reuben Foster's domestic violence case

Where things stand in Reuben Foster's domestic violence case

Elissa Ennis, the ex-girlfriend of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster, took the stand Thursday and admitted she lied to police and fabricated domestic violence claims.

After Foster was arrested on February 11, Ennis had told police that Foster dragged her by her hair, physically threw her out of the house, and punched her in the head eight to 10 times.

Ennis also testified that while Foster did not hit her once, she actually hit him with a hanger.

"She was extremely upset and told him if he broke up with her she would 'trash his career, '" Rickard said.

However, his ex-girlfriend's testimony on Thursday raised the possibility of charges being withdrawn. Thursday's hearing was being held to determine if the case will move forward. She said she was injured the night before she called 911 after getting into a fight with two women after a traffic incident in San Francisco. She describes her motivations as a "money scheme" and out of anger over the breakup, and testified that she threatened him.

Elissa Ennis would go on to retract everything she said about Foster, including admitting to being in a fight with another woman that caused her injuries.

"I wanted to sue Reuben".

Ennis later admitted to falsely accusing a former boyfriend of assault in 2011, for which she said she went to jail, according to the website.

Ennis admitted to stealing $8,000 and some jewelry from Foster, including two Rolex watches.

The 49ers drafted Foster 31st overall a year ago after questions about his health and character caused him to drop from being a possible top 10 pick.

When Ennis returned to the home she shared with Foster, she attempted to tell him about the altercation. Ennis has since recanted that statement, and in her testimony Thursday, she said she "lied a lot" to authorities about the incident.

Ennis recanted everything. She said she lied to investigators, hospital workers and even her mother after the incident February 11. Bentley argued that if there was no domestic violence crime, then the second count - which alleges that Foster smashed her cellphone - does not apply.

Clark does not believe that the district attorney's office will press charges against Ennis for lying, nor does he believe Foster will press charges against Ennis for the theft.

The defense is arguing Ennis injuries aren't consistent with the charges.

Why did she do so, and why would she initially lie to police, she was asked?
