Brandi Chastain hall of fame plaque barely resembles U.S. soccer star

Brandi Chastain hall of fame plaque barely resembles U.S. soccer star

Even Brandi Chastain acknowledged the plaque's shortcomings during the reception.

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in San Francisco announced Tuesday it will redo the plaque, which had been unveiled a day earlier. The plaque looks absolutely nothing like Chastain and is actually unbelivably atrocious.

"Brandi Chastain is one of the most lovely athletes I've ever covered", writes Ann Killion, a sports columnist at the San Francisco Chronicle.

Many people thought it looked like actor Gary Busey. "But it's nice", she said diplomatically of the plaque, according to the Associated Press. The Cristiano Ronaldo bust at the Cristiano Ronaldo Airport is, of course, the first one that everyone thinks of when they see bad depictions, but this one just might take the cake.

To put it more bluntly, the plaque was flat-out ugly, looking nothing like Chastain, bringing to mind Ronaldo's similarly unflattering sculpture.

Fortunately, it sounds as though the BASHOF has heard the outrage and is going to create a new plaque for Chastain.

The Chastain plaque was savaged by critics on Twitter, who said the smiling image of the footballer bore closer resemblance to former US President Jimmy Carter, baseball legend Babe Ruth and comic Mickey Rooney. In fact, it's not a flattering image of her at all.

This is the plaque of Chastain, victor of two World Cups and two-time Olympic gold medalist.

Brandi Chastain's iconic celebration.

O'Brien declined to give the artist's name, saying: 'I don't want to hurt someone's career.
