San Antonio Leads Nation in 2017 Population Growth

San Antonio Leads Nation in 2017 Population Growth

"It's entirely possible by the time the 2020 census comes around we will have 100,000 in Bend and if we are not there, we will be pretty close".

"As most of our peer communities and other smaller cities across Kentucky and the USA are declining in population, we are growing in a steady and sustainable manner".

One Illinois city that saw population bump was Naperville, which gained an estimated 488 residents from 2016 to 2017, according to the Census Bureau.

In the one-year comparison, Hempstead Town - the Island's most populous, with 774,959 people - gained 1,570 residents from July 2016 to July 2017, a 0.20 percent increase.

This week, the U.S. Census Bureau released population data which saw the City of Rockford drop from the fourth-largest city in IL to the fifth.

Texas cities ranked in the top three for percentage population growth from 2016 to 2017 out of 769 cities with populations of 50,000 or greater, according to the data. There Jacksonville ranks 12th, just behind Dallas, San Jose, Calif., and Austin, and just ahead of San Francisco, Columbus and Fort Worth. In every year since the last census count, the bureau has estimated at least some incremental growth for the state. In fact, for the second consecutive year, Seattle added more people in 2017 than all the King County suburbs combined.

Based on the March estimates, the state has grown 6.8 percent from the 814,180 residents who were counted for the 2010 census. "This growth was enough to push San Antonio's population above the 1.5 million mark", he added.

New York City remains the nation's most populous by far in 2017, with an estimated population of 8,622,698.

The figures underscored the agency's estimates by county, released in March, that showed growth in Nassau County of more than 3,600 people was responsible for Long Island's modest increase in 2017, even as Suffolk County lost population.

For the first time, Redmond reached more than 30,000 residents and Prineville hit more than 10,000, the census data showed.

For years, Texas suburbs have been battling it out at the top of the list of fastest-growing cities. And the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey could affect its population in coming years, said William Frey, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

In Brooklyn, the only New York City borough to lose population previous year, housing investors have driven away first-time buyers by snapping up the remaining affordable housing, according to an April report from the Center for NYC Neighborhoods, a public-private partnership that promotes affordable housing.

But City Manager Bill Parrish said he doesn't see the city and rural areas as competing for population. Rapid City is part of a corridor of growth that extends from the western edge of the state along I-90 eastward.
