WWDC 2018: macOS 10.14 Leak Reveals Full Dark Mode

WWDC 2018: macOS 10.14 Leak Reveals Full Dark Mode

The new Mac App Store API features a video preview for Xcode, something that the current Mac App Store does not support.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Xcode 10 on macOS 10.14. The wallpapers will be of a day and night variant to represent the light and dark system themes.

Also, when the video is carefully studied, its worth noting that, the trash icon also appears to be of a dark colour. Apple has long offered the option for users to enable a dark menu bar and Dock, but apps themselves retained their color schemes when making the switch.

Today Steven Troughton-Smith found a brief video on Apple's servers that arrives to show Xcode 10 working on macOS 10.14. The video has since been taken down, but the fact that it was on the Mac App Store makes it pretty official. The Xcode 10 helps the developers in developing new apps on the platform. This isn't a confirmation of a system-wide dark theme for iOS unfortunately as the aesthetics of the app could simply use dark elements.

In addition to the system-wide dark mode, the leak has also pretty much given away that fact that the Mac App Store will be getting a refresh and that it will contain the ability to hose video previews of apps, similar to how Apple's iOS App Store now works. It looks like mountains - or maybe sand dunes for macOS Mojave - shot at twilight. The background also has an image of the Mojave Desert in California suggesting the name of the next version be macOS Mojave. We expect Apple to officially unveil the new Mac operating system alongside iOS 12, tvOS 12 and watchOS 5 on Monday. We'll be doing extensive coverage of the same, so stay tuned!
