Bungie eyes China and self-publishing after NetEase deal

The announcement of the partnership, however might have caught the attention of some "Destiny 2" players.

Bungie has been quietly working on a non-Destiny new game for some time now, and today the studio acknowledged it for the first time, announcing a partnership with Chinese publisher NetEase that will raise them $US100 million ($132 million).

According to an announcement post that Bungie put up on its website, the new partnership with NetEase will allow Bungie to operate as a global multi-franchise developer, but it also won't affect the day-to-day operations behind Destiny 2.

Although the blog post doesn't mention the number, Bungie told The Wall Street Journal that NetEase has made a whopping $US100 million ($132 million) investment in the longrunning studio. The money will be used to build a new Bungie game, though details on the project remain hidden. The footnotes after it indicate that you need Destiny 2 base game, along with Curse of Osiris and Warmind to be able to play Forsaken.

NetEase Games is the second largest game company in China next to Tencent Games.

Rules of Survival and Knives Out, games published by NetEase for iOS and Android devices, are being accused of copyright infringement for copying several elements of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. More examples are given in the 155-page document submitted by PUBG Corp.

Bungie also reiterated that this isn't going to impact Destiny fans and that Destiny is an experience "that will grow for many years to come".
