Trump issues warning to trade partners over retaliatory tariffs

Trump issues warning to trade partners over retaliatory tariffs

"I'm happy to announce that we've released a joint communique by all seven countries", Trudeau said.

"Americans stand with you, even if our president doesn't". "It is going to stop or we are going to stop trading with them".

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is hosting the world's most powerful countries at the two-day summit in La Malbaie, in Quebec's Charlevoix region.

Trump quickly responded on Twitter that he was surprised by Trudeau's comments because he found the prime minister "so meek and mild" at the summit.

"The Prime Minister said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public, and in private conversation with the President."

Trump also slammed Trudeau for "making false statements" and accused him of being "meek and mild" in their one-on-one meeting on Friday before the Canadian leader came out swinging against the USA in a press conference on Saturday.

At his news conference, Mr.Trump again called for Russian Federation to reinstated to the G7, a suggestion rejected by all the leaders, expect Italy's new populist Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

But while Trudeau's months-long effort to reach out to US politicians and business leaders at every jurisdiction and level may not have won over Trump, it may pay dividends if Trump's attack finally spurs support from business groups or Congress. "We, the Leaders of the G7" is how the communique begins. But she added that Britain had expressed its "deep disappointment at the unjustified decision by the U.S.to apply tariffs to European Union steel and aluminum imports".

Trump claimed America had been obliged to levy the metals tariffs as it has been exploited as the world's "piggy bank" under existing arrangements, but his counterparts were equally determined to protect "rules-based" global trade.

The G7 joint communique, which advocates a "rules-based trading system", was reached despite tension over U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, reported BBC. "And we charge nothing", Trump said.

Thus, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Paris climate agreement, as well as from the Iranian nuclear deal, and imposed duties on steel and aluminum imports, including from Canada and its European partners.

"When I am telling them, they are smiling at me". "When I'm telling them, they're smiling at me".

"The level of relationship is a 10", Trump said.

European leaders had put a courageous face on the results.

"We are opposed to any sunset clause of any length", he said.

A senior United Kingdom government source said it stood by the commitments made in the communiqué., while a European Union official at the summit said it would "stick to the commitments made by all participants".

Trump was quick to respond to Trudeau's announcement in a Twitter outburst Saturday evening, writing that he will instruct USA representatives at the G7 summit to not sign the joint communique the seven nations crafted after a series of compromises and threatening to impose tariffs on automobiles from Canada.

"It's got to change".

"We're the piggy bank that everybody is robbing. And that ends", Trump said.
