Winner of $315 million Powerball jackpot comes forward

Winner of $315 million Powerball jackpot comes forward

Tayeb Souami stepped forward to claim the prize, CBS New York reports.

"North Dakota Powerball players have had some pretty good luck in 2018", said Randy Miller, director of the North Dakota Lottery, in a statement.

He found out he was the victor the next day. Souami, 55, had some work to do in the yard, but he also wanted to get his auto washed while his wife stayed at their home in Little Ferry, preparing meals for the week. The first ticket that he scanned wasn't the victor, but the second ticket said "good".

Souami said the clerk scanned the ticket and said, "Oh, my God!"

"Can you check?" Souami said he asked the cashier. I think your machine is not working'.

Although Souami is an accountant, he didn't want to see the number just yet, he said. When he walked in the door, his wife asked him what took him so long and then started crying when he showed her the lottery form.

Originally from Africa, Souami came to the United States in 1996.

"I have to take care of them", he told ABC. "It's not so easy to quit just like that".

The latest Powerball drawing offers another hefty jackpot for anyone fortunate to hold a lottery ticket with the right numbers.

Souami, a 53-year-old father of two added he plans to pay off his college loans, pay for his daughter to go to college next year and pay off his home.

A New Jersey man came forward as the victor of the $315.3 million Powerball jackpot.

The next Mega Millions drawing is Tuesday, June 12, with an estimated jackpot of $144 million and cash option of $85 million. The married father of four chose to take the money in a lump sum, so he'll get slightly more than $183 million after taxes.

"I love orange juice now", he said, laughing.
