'Fool Trade': Trump continues to rip G7 in tweetstorm

'Fool Trade': Trump continues to rip G7 in tweetstorm

The U.S. appears increasingly isolated among its key allies in its insistence on imposing new tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum.

In urging Trudeau to apologize for his comments, he also said the prime minister's statements were a "diplomatic betrayal" as Trump headed to Singapore to his high-profile summit with North Korean leader with Kim Jong-un.

U.S. President Donald Trump issued a volley of tweets on Monday venting anger on some of Washington's closest North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies over the United State's trade deficit, following a divisive G7 meeting in Canada.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, speaking Sunday to German public television, said she found Trump's tweet disavowing the G-7 statement "sobering" and "a little depressing". "We need to stand with our democratic allies".

The issue of trade was the most controversial heading into the G7 summit in La Malbaie, Que., with Trump launching multiple barbs in Canada's direction in the days leading up to his arrival.

Trump responded to the Canadian prime minster's news conference by tweeting that because of Trudeau's statement, he would not sign the communique that the G-7 nations had drafted at the summit.

Similarly, Krueger said Trump was unlikely to take the countermeasures lying down and could hit back with more trade restrictions.

Heyman pointed to the outburst aimed at Trudeau, Trump's lateness for an important meeting on gender equality at the G7, and the president's suggestion that Russian Federation be invited back into the G7 as evidence of this effort.

Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs united the European Union, Canada, Mexico and Japan, which all vowed retaliatory measures. Larry Kudlow, the National Economic Council director, said Trudeau "kind of stabbed us in the back" during the closing press conference.

"We are convinced that a modernisation is perfectly possible, we are convinced that common sense will triumph", she said. Kudlow said Trump won't let people "take pot shots at him" and that Trudeau "should've known better".

Hayden said he reacted to the attacks with "a mixture of sadness and, frankly, anger because no country deserves to be treated that way". "Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy".

"I've never seen language like this".

Kudlow's and Navarro's comments come on the heels of a tense G7 summit that left relations with USA allies even more fractured than before.

And Americans are practically apologizing on behalf of their president.

"I have made it very clear to the President that it is not something we relish doing, but it something that we absolutely will do", Trudeau said.

"This week started with @realDonaldTrump boosting a Chinese company identified as a national security threat to the U.S. It ended with him standing up for Russian Federation and alienating our allies at the G7".

While making no direct criticism of Mr Trump, Mrs May told MPs: "This was a hard summit with, at times, some very candid discussions, but the conclusion I draw is that it is only through continued dialogue that we can find ways to work together to resolve the challenges we face".

He followed up by tweeting: "PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, "US Tariffs were kind of insulting" and he "will not be pushed around".
