Trump takes more swipes at Canada and Trudeau after tense G7 summit

Trump takes more swipes at Canada and Trudeau after tense G7 summit

"Mr. Trudeau had sought to play down personal clashes with Mr. Trump as he wrapped up the summit, calling the meeting "very successful" and saying he was 'inspired by the discussion.'", the paper adds.

Experts say the Trudeau spat and the likelihood of tariffs from the European Union and Canada will result in a trade war.

In fact, Kudlow suggested in his appearance on CNN that Trump's anger at Trudeau is an act for an audience of one: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Larry Kudlow, who is the director of the National Economic Council, made the comments on CNN's State of the Union, in justifying Trump's decision to back out of a joint statement made by the countries that attended this weekend's G-7 summit in Canada.

"I can't believe this has to be said, but Justin Trudeau obviously didn't have a "fake eyebrow" falling off during his press conference with Emmanuel Macron", the reporter tweeted.

The back-and-forth may represent mostly political posturing by the two leaders, but there could be very real economic consequences. "We make our commitments and keep them". But, Trump's defenders today say that he is simply standing up for America.

"We are, by-and-large, integrated because we have common values and common legal systems and common strategic objectives", he said.

Of the 32 states that count Canada as their biggest export destination, 20 voted for Trump in the 2016 election.

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland had responded to the White House comments by saying that Canada will retaliate to USA tariffs in a measured and reciprocal way and that Canada will always be willing to talk. Earlier that day, Trump also tweeted: "Please tell Prime Minister Trudeau and President Macron that they are charging the US massive tariffs and create non-monetary barriers".

For good measure, Trump sent out more tweets the morning of June 8 before his arrival in Quebec - "Canada charges the US a 270% tariff on Dairy Products!". Canada promptly announced a range of retaliatory tariffs to the tune of $16.6 billion.

Trump slammed Trudeau for "making false statements" and accused him of being "meek and mild" in their one-on-one meeting.

Trudeau's remarks have enraged U.S. President Donald Trump, who tweeted hours later that he had instructed U.S. representatives not to endorse the G7 joint communique "based on Justin's false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies".

Navarro, the Trump trade adviser, said his harsh assessment of what "bad faith" Trudeau did with "that stunt press conference" on Saturday "comes right from Air Force One".

Trudeau responded with tough words of his own at a press conference later Saturday, reiterating that Canada would move forward with a slew of tariffs in response to Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs.

But unity was torn apart when the United States president took exception to Mr Trudeau calling USA policy "insulting".

Before Trump even jetted to the conference on Friday morning, he floated the possibility of Russian Federation rejoining the G7.

Peter Navarro, Trump's trade adviser, directed a series of stinging comments at Trudeau on "Fox News Sunday". I mean, it's not a question of 'I hope it changes.' It's going to change, a hundred percent.

President Donald Trump took more swipes at Canada and its prime minister over trade issues as he settled in for a summit with North Korea in Singapore, contending that "Fair Trade is now to be called Fool Trade if it is not Reciprocal".
